It was the longest SONA breaking records. July 25,2016 - the most anticipated date by many Filipinos. For on this date, after 26 days in office as the Commander-in-Chief of this country, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte delivered his first SONA or State of the Nation Address, held at the House of Representatives Plenary Hall.

The said event was scheduled to start at exactly 4:00 o'clock in the afternoon. Many of the first arrived hours earlier wearing only business attires and not the traditional long gowns or Filipiniana dresses. In compliance with the request of the President to make the event simple.

The President arrived around 3:00 o'clock in the afternoon via a helicopter. The Congress and Senate joint session started at 4:00 o'clock as scheduled. The newly elected Speaker of the House, Davao del Norte Representative Pantaleon Alvares and Senate President Koko Pimentel opened the session and presented President Rodrigo Roa Duterte.

His prepared speech was in English, and started it by announcing that the two men standing behind him were all from Mindanao just like him. Then started acknowledging the guests present in that event such as Senators, Congressmen, High Ranking PNP and AFP Officials and foreign dignitaries. He delivered his plans for the country, including the relapse of the bank secrecy law, the extensions of the validity of the driver's license for 3 years to 5 years, and the passports from 5 years to 10 years.

The creation of an agency and a one stop shop which will cater for the needs of the OFW's (Overseas Filipino Workers). He ordered DSWD to distribute rice for the poor every month. He asked Congress to grant him "Emergency Powers" to solve the traffic problems in the Metro and assured the Congress that his government will be clean and there will be no corruption.

To lessen air traffic, he ordered all private air crafts to be transferred to Sangle Point, and other domestic flights to use the Subic International Airport. He also stated his plans for the Moro people and tribes in the country. He also urged Congress to pass the Federal form of government and copy the France form of the federal system, and still elect a president but with limited powers.

He also announced a Unilateral Ceasefire between the CPP/NPA/NDF and asked the other party to react positively. Then asked the Moro people to sit with the government panel and resume peace talk. He also added, that we Filipino's should stop hating each other too much and give peace a chance. Then urged his Moro brothers to stop the decades of mistrust and warfare to attain peace, not for the dead but also for the living. Then asked lawmakers to pass BBL (Bangsamoro Basic Law).

Indeed, it was the longest SONA for it lasted for 1 hour and 32 minutes and all we have to do as citizens of this country is to wait, cooperate with the government's policies and do our part to attain the "real change" that we're aiming for.- Prez Tagsa
